Question by fiaschetti.destiny: What did the roman empire have to do with the great schism of the roman christian church of 1054?
In the year 1054 the roman church split to the roman catholics and the eastern orthodox, what did the empire at the time have to do with this?
Answer by PaulCyp
The Roman Empire had ceased to exist many centuries before, therefore it had nothing to do with the schism. Also, the original Christian Church did not “split”. The Orthodox church came into existence and separated FROM the original Christian (Catholic) Church. That’s why it is called a “schism”. The original Christian Church continued exactly as it had for the previous thousand years, united and undivided, and will continue so until the end of time. Christ guaranteed it!
