Petersburg, Tennessee Author Publishes New Children’s Book

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) January 21, 2010

Springborn, a new book by Petersburg, Tennessee author Ruth D. Dewey, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

Springborn, a book about a tiny calico kitten, introduces a poetic form from the Old English, the “kenning.” The kenning is a phrase consisting of two words, adjective-noun, to describe an object, in this case the cyclical nature of a kitten’s life as she progresses from kittenhood to cathood.

This beloved book will be cherished by readers everywhere as it shows them a day in the life of a calico kitten.

Ruth D. Dewey wrote and illustrated Springborn as a graphic arts class project. Her subject was a mother and father cat raising kittens. The story sprung from Ruth’s realization that animals form family bonds in much the same manner as humans.

A native of Northeastern Ohio, Ms. Dewey is a substitute teacher in the Lincoln County Schools in her home of Petersburg, Tennessee. Married to James Robert Dewey Jr., she has three sons: Timothy Nathan Hobbs, James Robert Dewey III, and David Richard Dewey. Ruth received her bachelor of arts in English from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California, and studied in the graduate program in the West Redding, Connecticut’s Institute of Children’s Literature. A current member of both the Church of Christ and the Lincoln County Piecemakers Quilt Guild, she counts among her special interests quilting, gardening, and raising animals.

Springborn is a 42-page paperback with a retail price of .00. The ISBN is 978-1-4349-0303-7. It was published by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. For more information or to request a review copy, please visit our virtual pressroom at or our online bookstore at

A teacher for the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Jim Blockey and his wife, Clemene, have two children: James and Dean. Jim has been a member of the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church for twenty years. He also enjoys golf, baseball, and traveling, and he is a referee for high school sports.
