Church of Panaghia
A small church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary ("Παναγία" in Greek), dating back to the Byzantine era. Found outside the village of Fodele, on the island of Crete, in Greece. Inside it features beautiful murals, some of them dating back to the 11th century.
Right across this church, one finds the house where the famous painter El Greco (Doménicos Theotokópoulos) is believed to have been born, in 1541. This house has been restored and operates as an El Greco Museum. Having spent his childhood in this area, the painter is believed to have been inspired by this little church in depicting religious themes in his artwork.
You can read more about this church in this page (only in Greek, sorry)
