The congregation was organized in 1879 by two preachers, the Rev. Dick White and a Rev. Jones, who conducted prayer meetings in area homes. The first church services were held on the farm of Isaac Graves, northeast of McKinney. Originally known as the Free Missionary Baptist Church, the name became Saint Mark in 1886. That same year the church purchased this property and built a brush arbor. A one-room frame building served as the first sanctuary. The present brick edifice was constructed in 1960 during the 1942-1974 pastorate of the Rev. B.T. Jones. (1980) Incise on back: Church Families A. Beavers S. Bell Jr. R.GV. Cofield O.H. Ellis E. In Which Pastor Mark Tells a Story About Chairs

“So I had to sit here and pray, ‘Lord God, please fill up our couch. Amen.'” Pastor Mark Driscoll tells the story about the chair he preached from when he and Grace first started Mars Hill Church in their living room in 1996. Then there was church in the Ballard campus when everybody had to bring their own chairs and all the single guys showed up with putrid camping chairs and beanbags until a donor came in, wrote a check, and was never seen from again. Then this year, we’re praying to fill 20000 seats with people who can come hear about and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter. You’re invited.

Who is Jesus Christ? – Mark Driscoll Sermon Jam (Easter 2011)

The last few minutes of Mars Hill Church’s Pastor Mark Driscoll’s Easter 2011 sermon at Qwest Field. Full Sermon: Song: Timestretch – Bassnecter. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT from “Who is Jesus Christ? He is the maker of heaven and earth. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. He is the Son of God. He is the God-man. He is our humble servant. He is the man of sorrows. He is the good shepherd. He is the prince of peace. He is the wonderful counselor. He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He is the dragon slayer. He is the sinless savior. He is the resurrection and the life. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He is the sinner’s friend. He is the great high priest. He is the King of kings. He is the Lord of lords. And he is the way, the truth, the life! No one comes to the Father but by him! His love is glorious. His love is marvelous. His love is generous. His love is gracious. His love is matchless. And his love is priceless. He came as a humble servant. He’s coming again as the King of kings and the Lord of lords to judge the living and the dead. And friends, this is the most important moment in your entire life. Jesus while on the earth asked this question, “Who do you say that I am?” That is Jesus’ question for you today. Who do you say that he is?”
