What is the purpose of the pope? why is the pope so important?

Question by MjFN1: What is the purpose of the pope? why is the pope so important?
I understand the God assigned peter to build the church and lead it, but how do you know he assigned everyone after him? I know Catholics dont worship him the just respect him as the head of the church but yet seems like whatever he says it must be done, whatever he adds should be added and some people even pray to him, kiss him and expect a miracle? not even the prophets which served yahweh and were cloder to him were treated like that from the people.

Why is music such an important part of church in the 18th century?

Question by Fumiko S: Why is music such an important part of church in the 18th century?
Handel’s Messiah, for example, tells the story of Jesus. Why did people in the 18th century believe that music in church was so important?

Best answer:

Answer by DJK
Even today, in many denominations, music still is a very important part of the church service. Some services have “modernized” and do not use as much music or as complicated music as in the past. There are many traditions of different denominations that consider the music and singing as the worship itself.

For example, in the oldest tradition, the Roman Catholic mass (service) was completely sung. In some Catholic churches today that tradition is still used.

There are many, many choral and instrumental pieces that have been written well past the 18th century, even today, that are specifically written for sacred use. Many are even on the scale of Handel’s Messiah.

So to answer your question – Because music, both instrumental and vocal, was/is believed to be worship in and of itself, not thought of as just an ancillary part of a sacred service. This holds true with a lot of people today as well.

“I don’t want to go to church!” screams a little boy. “I don’t feel like going to church”, says a parent. You must have heard or said one of these sentences many times or at least twice. This calls for a reflection on the benefits of church going for family life.

An understanding of these benefits will change our perspective and attitude towards making the trip to church, no matter the distance or how we feel at that time.

The benefits:

1. Obedience to God

God commanded us in Hebrews 10:25, not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. This is for our own good so that we will not be swept away by the things of the world. So, as a family we obey God by going to Church.

2. Fellowship

When families go to church together, they interact with other families and learn from one another. What was a challenge in one family life will be easily solved by learning how another solved it. The bible says in Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend”. (NLT)

3. Family Life moulding

Church going is crucial and plays a major part in moulding our family life. The teachings mould our individual characters which we manifest in the family. My family is built on love, honesty, integrity, openness, faithfulness, discipline and trust because individually we have these moulded in us through the teachings we get from church.

4. Service

As a car needs to go in for service so also families need to go to church to be serviced. We learn more about God and how to live a victorious Christian life as a family. Many questions in our minds are answered and solutions to problems are given as we listen to the man of God preaching. Even, we are also ministered to through the songs, testimonies, prayers, etc.

Furthermore, we are given opportunities to serve God in the church as a family through service units like choir, ushering team, etc. All these help to cement and maintain the joy we have in our family life

5. Networking

Many Christians wonder how they are to socialize. Going to church gives the platform to do that. You meet and get to know new people who love God like you. Some of these people may have some things in common with your family. These may generate a relationship that will be beneficial to both families, financially or otherwise.

6. Avoidance of trouble

We have kept away from troubles because we chose to be in church when there was service in church.  The people who would have put us into trouble did not find us available for outings that would have ruined our family life.

7. Choice of company

Going to church enables you to choose the right company to keep. Children make friends with people that love God and will never lead them astray. Children who go to church and participate fully with their hearts tend to overcome peer pressure more.

8. Choice of spouse

When you go to church, you have the opportunity to meet and marry a God fearing person. The marriage foundation will be solid because both of you are on the same spiritual platform which is needed for a successful family life

9. Peace

Families who go to church enjoy peace at home. Jesus, the prince of peace who we fellowship with in church, follows us home to continue the fellowship there.  The word of God in us individually produces peace in us which ultimately reflects in our relationship with one another

10. Channel for salvation

Most importantly, church going gives people the opportunity to change and give their lives to Christ Jesus. God wants people to come to church no matter what they may have done. The word of God we hear constantly produces the faith to be saved. And if any member of the family is yet to give his or her life to Jesus, continued church going will eventually help the person(s) to be saved.

Many families are going through a lot of challenges that are tearing them apart. Going to church consistently and participating fully will solve that problem. The wisdom for solving family issues is always delivered in church. Is there anything that can stop one from going to church now?

What other benefit can your family derive from church going?

How important do you think church and fellowship is to salvation and becoming a true christian?

Question by Corbu: How important do you think church and fellowship is to salvation and becoming a true christian?
Do you believe that you can be a saved as a true Christian without full communion with a church and without baptism?
I’m always skeptical of so many American churches, especially mega churches that follow a charismatic movement under some “revered” pastor who turn out to be frauds.

Why Music is Important – StudentScholarships.org

Why Music is Important – StudentScholarships.org

Charlie Parker said it best when he concluded that, “They teach you there’s a boundary line to music. But, man, there’s no boundary line to art.” This world renowned jazz saxophonist knew exactly what he was talking about. I have learned that music is art; it is beautiful, expressive, playful, and its understanding and interpretation is always contoured to fit each individual’s life, regardless of what is taught through textbooks and schools. More than often, music is a reflection of history; of either the turmoil or the joy of real, human events. It is one of the few elements of society that has lasted throughout the centuries. I consider myself privileged to play bass guitar, an instrument that has roots from the early double bass, dating from 1490 in Venice, Italy. Furthermore, I consider it a challenge and adventure to major in Music Business, with a double minor in Spanish and also in Church Music Ministry at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.

My life has been about music. My elementary and high school years were spent playing in the school band and jazz band in San Antonio, Texas. I have also played for years at my father’s church with my sister and her vocal abilities, my mother on the piano, and my favorite cousin on the drums. I have a very large family with many uncles, aunts, and almost 30 cousins. On my mother’s side, I am the oldest one in the entire family. I am the first to graduate from high school, the first to attend college, and the first to move away from home. I know that by doing all of this, I am setting an example for the younger generation in my family to realize that they too can follow this road.

Because I am deeply rooted in my Mexican culture, I have also decided to double minor in Spanish and also in church ministry. Being bilingual is an experience beyond any other. With this acquired ability, I have been able to help my church and my community as well. I have often found myself translating work for my father or helping my mother understand something. Furthermore, I realize that the statistics in reference to Latinos, specifically Mexican-Americans, graduating from an American university is at a nationwide low. I feel that by graduating from SNU, not only will I be an additional number for a rise in the statistics, but a stepping stone towards reaching the milestone that declares that American education is founded in equality.

This fall semester has been very difficult for me. I have moved nearly 600 miles away from the familiarity of life—my family and friends and upbringing. The only thing that keeps me going at times is the reassurance that I feel very passionate about this goal of mine. I am certain that in four years, I will have my degree. Because SNU is a private university, it is one of the most expensive schools in Oklahoma. Living on campus and paying out-of-state tuition also raises the cost for me. With full-time status at the school and orchestra practices, my schedule does not allow time for a part-time job either. Because my parents are pastors, they have had to take additional part-time jobs to cover expenses. I know that their contributions combined will not be enough to sustain my college-related expenses for the next four years. The Frank O’Neill award will be an amazing contribution towards my academic career.

Although music is universal, its meaning is not. It takes on a different significance for each person. For me, it is the passion that fuels the desire to further explore it, play it, and live it—one note at a time.

StudentScholarships.org is a scholarship database that has a big list of music scholarships.
