They can’t find one, because the churches of today tend to leave the stuff out about slavery, Selling your daughter as a sex slave, Jesus’s racism.

Where can I find a religion that works for me?

Question by weakestlink11: Where can I find a religion that works for me?
I was raised as a Protestant Christian, but haven been to that church for a service in decades. I’ve even been to Roman Catholic, Jewish, Pentecostal, and non-denominational Protestant services. Right now I’m involved in study with Jehovah’s Witnesses. There are concepts in every one that seem acceptable to be, but also many elements and tenets in each that I just can’t buy into. How does one find a religion that’s right for them?

Is true friendship hard to find in a church?

Question by Desiree: Is true friendship hard to find in a church?
Here’s an experiment for you, dear Christians; start going to a different church. If your “friends” at your old church stop speaking to you or throw stones at your home, they weren’t true friends; they were only friends with you on the condition that you stayed in their church. True friendship has no conditions; it is unconditional. True friendship is not limited by religion, politics or sexuality; true friendship is a bond that is stronger than all these petty human devices. Will you do this experiment and get back to me with the results?

I have already done this actually and the “true” friends are still true friends of mine.

Where can I find of list of the lawsuits filed by the Phelps family?

Question by Lucky: Where can I find of list of the lawsuits filed by the Phelps family?
Its common knowledge that when Westboro Baptist Church hatefully protests at funerals and its members are attacked, they immediately sue for damages, and this makes up a great deal of their income. However, I want to cite this fact in a paper, and so where would I find this information? I’d like to reference all the suits brought forth by the Phelps family and maybe see the damages sought.

That would take quite a bit of offline research.

“Phelps himself is a disbarred attorney who was long known for massive litigation; at one point, he personally had almost 200 lawsuits pending in federal court. Although his congregation includes only about 22 adults, at least 14 of those have law degrees.

The church has its own law firm, Phelps Chartered, which is staffed by church members and which has repeatedly filed suit against its perceived enemies (see Halting Abusive Lawyers).

In addition to suing the chief of police and various Kansas judges and politicians, it has sued one district attorney three times for “malicious prosecution.” Even private citizens who filed criminal complaints against the picketers found themselves embroiled in lawsuits — or, perhaps by coincidence, with roofing nails littering their driveways. “

I suspect you are doing something wrong.

“Religion and Spirituality” is a sub-head to both City and County sub-sub-sub-directories in the Yahoo! and Google directories. It is also a sub-head of “Culture” in Yahoo! and “Society” in Google. Most churches don’t bother to get listed there anymore, because everyone uses the search engine.

Just enter the name of your denomiation, city and state in any reputable search engine. You should get dozens of hits. If you are looking across denominations or for a non-denominational church, use the word “church”, plus your city and state. You could also try the two words “Church Directory”, in quotation marks, plus your town and state.

If you ARE denomination-specific, go to the site for your national organization and look for a link named “Find a congregation near you” or the like. They are usually on the front page; if not, use the site-specific search.

I maintain two church web sites and consult on another. 80% of our visitors come through search engines. We almost never see someone from the Yahoo category.

If you still have trouble, send me your town, state and denomination and I’ll send you a dozen links.

Where can I find a free email list of christian churches in Canada?

Question by Joe Ferman: Where can I find a free email list of christian churches in Canada?
This is for a holiday message and greeting.

Answer by http://www.bible-reviews.com
There are probably tens of thousands of churches in Canada – maybe even hundreds of thousands.

You will not find any such list for free. Such a list – if it exists – would be very expensive.

Arctic Circle and North Pole Video: Explore the North Pole Beyond “Polar Express”: Fast Facts on the Real North Pole Why Does Earth’s Magnetic Field Flip? Over the past century the pole has moved 685 miles (1,100 kilometers) from Arctic Canada toward Siberia, says Joe Stoner, a paleomagnetist at Oregon State University.

At its current rate the pole could move to Siberia within the next half-century, Stoner said.

“It’s moving really fast,” he said. “We’re seeing something that hasn’t happened for at least 6000years.”

Stoner presented his team’s research at the American Geophysical Union’s meeting last week in San Francisco.

Lorne McKee, a geomagnetic scientist at Natural Resources Canada, says that Stoner’s data fits his own readings.

“The movement of the pole definitely appears to be accelerating,” he said.

The shift is likely a normal oscillation of the Earth’s magnetic field, Stoner said, and not the beginning of a flip-flop of the north and south magnetic poles, a phenomenon that last occurred 780,000 years ago.

Such reversals have taken place 400 times in the last 330 million years, according to magnetic clues sealed in rocks around the world. Each reversal takes a thousand years or more to complete.

“People like to think something special is happening in their lifetimes, but despite the dramatic changes, I don’t see any evidence of it,” Stoner said. “It’s probably just a normal wandering of the pole.”
