Lo! He Comes With Clouds Descending

The Church of the Atonement Chicago, IL December 2, 2012 Charlie Sega, Organist & Choirmaster Lo! He comes with clouds descending, Once for favoured sinners slain; Thousand thousand saints attending, Swell the triumph of His train: Hallelujah! Hallelujah! God appears on earth to reign Every eye shall now behold Him Robed in dreadful majesty; Those who set at naught and sold Him, Pierced and nailed Him to the tree, Deeply wailing, deeply wailing, Shall the true Messiah see. The dear tokens of His passion Still His dazzling body bears; Cause of endless exultation To His ransomed worshippers; With what rapture, with what rapture Gaze we on those glorious scars! Yea, amen; let all adore thee, High on thine eternal throne; Saviour, take the power and glory; Claim the kingdoms for thine own: Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Thou shalt reign, and thou alone.

Does anyone ever feel weird when church music comes on?

Question by : Does anyone ever feel weird when church music comes on?
Hi i have no offense against Christianity or anything that has to do with religion, in fact my grand father is a born-again christian and i used to go to church a lot when i knew a friend when i was younger. so does anyone ever feel different, or weird when the music comes on in church and some people are smiling about it, and they just feel happy?

Best answer:

Answer by K. Plesner
When I go to church because of a baptizing, wedding or funeral, I often think to myself ‘I wonder if anybody in here actually believes this?’.

The somewhat glazed smile you’re describing does happen, but mostly in people one or two generations older than I am.

What do you think? Answer below!

Scott Hahn has the rare ability to explain the essential teachings of Catholicism in a totally accessible manner. Rather than burdening the reader with difficult or arcane references and arguments, he writes of familiar feelings and situations and allows the theology to unfold naturally. In First Comes Love, Hahn turns his attention to the search for a sense of belonging, revealing the intimate connection between the families men and women create on earth and the divine family, the Holy Trinity.

Delving into the Gospels, Hahn shows that family terminology–words like brother, sister, mother, father, and home–dominates Jesus’ speech and the writings of His first followers, and that these very words illuminate Christianity’s central ideas. As he explores the fatherhood of God, the marriage of the Church to Christ, and the all-enveloping role of the Holy Spirit, Hahn deepens readers’ understanding of the sacraments, teaches them how to create a family life in the image of the Trinity, and demonstrates the ways in which the analogy of the family applies to every aspect of Catholicism and its practices–from the role of “father” embodied by the ancient patriarchs and contemporary parish priests, to the comfort and guidance offered by the brothers and sisters who comprise the Communion of Saints, to the nurturing embrace of Mary, the mother of all Christians.

Through real-life examples (both humorous and compassionate) and quotations drawn from the Scriptures, Hahn makes it clear that no matter what sort of family readers come from–no matter what sort of “dysfunction” they have experienced–they can find a family in the Church. Reaching out to newcomers and to lifelong Christians alike, First Comes Love is an invitation to discover a true home in the divine.

From the Hardcover edition.Scott Hahn, in First Comes Love, uses the idea of family to explain Catholic thought about the Trinity. Hahn believes that the relations among the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are a model for the relations among every nuclear unit composed of father, mother, and child. And he believes that the family of the Church helps people emulate the Trinitarian family and can heal them when they fall short of such holiness. Hahn moves easily from personal anecdote to Scriptural analysis, making his case that Jesus understood all of humanity as part of one family when he called his followers brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers. First Comes Love makes the salutary point that neither romance nor parenthood alone can give us a sufficient sense of belonging. “God built us all to live in a much larger family, to experience a much larger love … a love that extends infinitely.” –Michael Joseph Gross

Miss California Comes Home to the Rock, 48 Hours Inside the Controversy: A First Hand Look

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 23, 2009

Carrie Prejean, Miss California and Miss USA’s first runner up, will appear at the Rock Church during services on Sunday April 26th. On-line viewers will also be able to watch a live stream of the 36 minute conversation between Prejean and Miles McPherson, Senior Pastor of the Rock Church. Prejean is a member of the Rock family and actively serves in church outreach ministries.

During the question and answer portion of Sunday’s Miss USA pageant, Prejean expressed her belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman, touching off a firestorm of widely publicized criticism from pageant judge and nationally known celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. In subsequent appearances, Prejean has stood fast in her morals and Biblical truths, refusing to compromise her faith.

Sunday’s services will feature a discussion with Pastor McPherson, who spent time with Prejean in the critical hours following the pageant. They will share the story behind the controversy that we haven’t heard.
