Is it better to stick with a Baptist Church affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention?

Question by Nectar: Is it better to stick with a Baptist Church affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention?
Is it better to stick with a Baptist Church affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, rather than an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist Church?

I’ve heard that Independent Fundamentalist Baptist churches can be cults, while the churches in a convention are safer. Do you agree?

Question by : Which is better for undergraduate economics: Oxford, Harvard, Yale or Princeton?
I want to go into business, I have an offer from Oxford at Christ Church for Economics & Management, and offers for straight economics from the other 3. Which institution will allow me to succeed the most? I understand that if you have been to one of these institutions then your view will be skewed, but I would like a general reaction please.

Would Republicans feel better about taxes if we gave them a gathering place to give and people will see them?

Question by Growth vs Oil: Would Republicans feel better about taxes if we gave them a gathering place to give and people will see them?
One thing I have noticed is that most conservatives do not like to give unless they are receiving acknowledgment that you gave. Jesus fish in a company ad, flare up at the gas station with your name on it, your Church name on your car etc. They don`t even know they are doing it for self. Why do conservatives give more then Liberals, there is a paper trail when conservatives give.

Is this the way you justify the fact that conservatives give more than liberals in charity? You are nothing but a spin-monster and a fvcking apologist, and you can’t even see your own words proving that. I’m done for today; I do consider you guys friends, but you’re pissing me off right now.

Liberals can’t figure out that the poor end spends the rich end’s money all day, through the use of taxes and through the use of charity, and that liberals are the ones giving just so they can get the damn tax write-offs. Conservatives are the ones giving of their TIME, which cannot be taxed. God, you people and your justifications for why the right could ever possibly be on the upper end of something make me sick sometimes.

IT GETS BETTER – A GAY MORMON’S STORY – MATT SUTTON

My name is Matt Sutton. I am a Gay Mormon, and I am here to tell all the Struggling Young LGBT Kids… IT DOES GET BETTER!!! Don’t get me wrong, your still going to have struggles, but things are going to get better and your going to be able to live with it. Whatever happens to you know is only going to make you stronger in the end. My story is pretty crazy, me ending up gay and mormon. I had a really hard time, worste than most people I know, because it was especially not accepted in the mormon community. I was very much ostracized for everyone, my family looked down on me with shame, I was sent to all kinds of therapists and counselors. It was awful!!! I felt like I didn’t even have a family… and the worste part was NOONE COULD UNDERSTAND ME! Everyone just wanted to change me! I eventually isolated from my family and the church all together. I then looked to find comfort and support elsewhere… I ended up getting involved with the wrong kind of people, and too numb my pain and my feelings of abandonment I fell into drugs and alcohol, became a complete cocaine addict and alcoholic. I did all kinds of incomprehensible demoralizations. I ended up in all kinds of legal trouble. I was a mess. LUCKILY, I was able to get some help, ended up in rehab, and thats when I finally got to know myself and become in acceptance of WHO I AM! I was finally able to mend my relationships with my family and society. TODAY, I am proud of who I am. I have a WONDERFUL LIFE! I have a

52 Lies Heard in Church Every Sunday: …And Why the Truth Is So Much Better

52 Lies Heard in Church Every Sunday: …And Why the Truth Is So Much Better

Could many churchgoing Christians be getting a diluted Christianity—one that diminishes the loving, giving, personal God who provides the believer everything in life?

Author Steve McVey passionately but unwittingly taught from the pulpit the very lies he now exposes. Forthrightly but humbly, he shows how pastors and churches can end up distorting scriptural truths because of their preconceptions.

Opening up the Scriptures freshly, Steve examines typical problems such as

  • Leaving out half of the truth: “Becoming a Christian means having your sins forgiven.” (We also are made alive!)
  • Using “shorthand” that promotes an unbiblical view: “Our sins are under the blood of Jesus.” (Far better, they’ve been taken away!)
  • Confusing our role with God’s: “Salvation is giving your life to Christ.” (More important, He gives His life to us!)

Readers will see that God’s undiluted truth is always best…and brings a fulfilling, close relationship with Him.
