Shocking News Atheist Bus Ad from UK Soon the World Over!?
Sorry the title is a bit over the top. Just had some fun playing with the new advertising phenomena of advertising the intangible product, believe. The atheist UK bus campaign does not breach the advertising code. The £140000 ad campaign was launched on January 6, 2009 by the British Humanist Association. It has generated media exposure worth millions. Subliminal Advertising one might think, but that phrase is long taken by Derren Brown. The (relatively cheap) campaign is now globally forcing people to think about what they believe, and how they communicate that. Not bad, not bad at all!! It also forced me to see what some things that I heard and thought today would look like on the side of a bus. The Advertising Standards Authority ruled that adverts were an expression of the advertiser’s opinion and that the claims in it were not capable of objective substantiation. The adverts, with the slogan “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life”, were launched by the British Humanist Association. Featuring on 200 bendy buses in London and 600 other vehicles in England, Scotland and Wales, they were backed by high profile atheists, including the author of The God Delusion, Professor Richard Dawkins. Three separate pro-God advert campaigns on the sides of London buses defend the almighty with slogans and a Biblical verse.
