Nikolaikirche (St. Nicholas Church) in Leipzig – famous for the Monday mass and gatherings – which in turn are credited with the peaceful revolution that lead the way to German reunification in 1989. Here Martin describes the many ways in which the church was able to subvert restrictions on gatherings and advertising in the former GDR. The bicycle stands were used to deliver a message – that the church was "open for all".
