In Which Pastor Mark Tells a Story About Chairs

December 3, 2011 in Chairs For Church Tags: , , , , ,

“So I had to sit here and pray, ‘Lord God, please fill up our couch. Amen.’” Pastor Mark Driscoll tells the story about the chair he preached from when he and Grace first started Mars Hill Church in their living room in 1996. Then there was church in the Ballard campus when everybody had to bring their own chairs and all the single guys showed up with putrid camping chairs and beanbags until a donor came in, wrote a check, and was never seen from again. Then this year, we’re praying to fill 20000 seats with people who can come hear about and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter. You’re invited. www.marshillchurch.org

I like to believe when something like that where someone donates to you and you have no idea who that was, it was an angel God sent that came and went. I know it may sound cheesy but you HAVE to know its true.

@98nafets… You can rest easy about our small groups (“Community Groups”), which is where the real life of Mars Hill Church is found. Sundays are great, but church happens all week long where we do life with each other at street-level. I’ve been a Christian for 3 decades and have never seen anything like it until coming to MHC.

I love it, I’m not really a mega church fan, but how you emphasize community groups in your preachings just shows your heart as a discipler..

True enough, you are humble to just ask God to fill up your couch. I bet you didn’t expect this, but it happened.. I pray that may you have people in your church who will have the heart to go out to the unreached people groups.. And may they have a portion of your anointing there, to do exploits for God! :)

I get a little weary win churches get this big. You loose a lot of the community feel. Hopefully you have a good small groups ministry because I know your preaching is strong. (As opposed to other preachers: see my latest video)
