Question by : How do you become a member of the Episcopal Church?
I would like to become a member of the Episcopal Church, but do not know how. And what is the Book Of Common Prayer? What are the beliefs of the Episcopal Church. I am currently Roman Catholic, but I find The Episcopal church very interesting.

You need to put a dead animal at the feet of their Jesus idol, or something like that.

Before you should consider joining any new religion or denomination visit several churches of that type and talk to the clergy there.

I can give you a list of 30 or more good Bible based Christian denominations, but the Episcopal Church is not on that list.

    Why?

Well for one, they they are the closest officially protestant group to the Roman Catholic Church, and many of their beliefs are simply not Biblical. Since you’ve already decided you don’t like the RCC you probably won’t like the Episcopal Church either.

And that was before they decided it was OK to be gay or a lesbian.

I advise everyone avoid any group which baptizes infants.

The good thing about the Episcopal Church also known as the Church of England is the Alpha Course.

Nicky Gumbel is an Episcopal Priest and teaches the Alpha Course.

The terms “Church of England”, “Episcopal Church” in the USA and “Anglican” all mean the same thing.

I’ve taken the Alpha Course and it is excellent.

Here is the list of better denominations:

If you can find a church which is on the above list and teaches the Alpha Course, that would be a great place to start.

You may like the Episcopal church because its what I like to call Catholic lite. On of the things I find best about the Episcopal church is its size. Ever hear the saying, “Smaller is friendlier?” I feel that way about Episcopal churches. The Episcopal church works on a three year cycle of the Bible, with weekly readings from the Old and New Testaments. The book of common prayer is the, for lack of a better term, guide book that lists the basic order of services. You can find it online (http://justus.anglican.org/resources/bcp/bcp.htm) I would definitely visit a few Episcopal churches to see which one fits you. Every church has its own personality and Episcopal churches are the same. Good luck and God bless.
