Question by tankswife06: How can religions be OF the bible when they are not IN the bible?
Where did the names come from such as Catholic, Baptist, Apostolic, Presbyterian and others? I have not found any of these names in the bible.
Shouldn’t Christ’ church have Christ’ name?

They came from what they (from outside appearances) feature. Btw…Catholic and Apostolic are generally used together.
The name of the Church doesn’t really matter. (Within reason, of course.) It’s what is taught inside and what is in the heart of the congregation that matters.

Interpretation divides society creating as you say, Catholicism and other aspects- basically some focus on other areas more and maybe influence it and add on aspects in their opinion.

Baptist is “John the Baptist”, Apostles are in the Gospel, so Apostolic comes from that, etc.
Catholic means Universal, when the term began to be used it was the Church of Western Europe, the ‘universe’ of those who were in it at the time.
Most Church names have some origin in Biblical teachings, but maybe not directly taken from the Bible. Most denominations were founded centuries after the Bible was written, so the Bible could not talk about “Baptists” other than followers of John, who then became followers of Jesus; the Catholic Church developed from early Christianity, but was usually just called “The Church” through early history. Since Christianity is so segmented, the different branches need titles to keep them straight and they don’t all say “Christian” in the name.

This is one of many reasons why I follow what Jesus says, and not any compromise man made particular religion.

other religions are in the bible but god told the israelites to kill them all. except for the egyptians. is it because moses got the idea of monotheism from akhenaten, who invented the one god system ? did I get off topic again ?
