Can a Westerner join an Eastern Catholic Church or must (s)he join the Roman Church?

Question by Michelle: Can a Westerner join an Eastern Catholic Church or must (s)he join the Roman Church?
When someone of Western ancestry (i.e. patrimony to some traditionally Roman Catholic culture) converts to Catholicism, can that person convert via one of the Eastern Catholic churches or must that person become a member of the Roman Church specifically?

If you think the book of mormon is enough
of God’s word (he who has ears to hear the language of eternity let him hear),
you’re right;
it’s enough to send you to hell.
