I believe the name of the book was ‘Serim’, though I can’t swear I’m right. Book about the Salsbury Plains, as you’ve mentioned. No idea who wrote it.
Edit: I was wrong about the spelling:
Sarum: The Novel of England (Paperback)
~ Edward Rutherfurd
Edward Rutherfurd (Author)
Edit: Sarum, after sleeping on it I’m not so certain – it had a great deal devoted to the building of Salsbury Cathedral, but it probably isn’t the one you’re referring to. It’s been several years and I read the book you mentioned. This morning I think it might have been Cathedral by Sorenson.
