Newt Gingrich- Rediscovering God in America

Throughout much of the political discourse and debate during these elections, we often hear people trying to rationally remove God from our great American history. Oftentimes, it is the agenda that gets pushed ahead, while God gets pushed to the side.

I recently had the opportunity to speak with former Speaker of the House and Church Report contributor, Newt Gingrich, about his new book, Rediscovering God in America. It was evident from speaking with him, that this new book allowed him to combine his firm Christian faith and his historical acumen to remind us of how our faith has had an integral role in the development of our nation.

Rediscovering God in America walks the reader through Washington, DC from the National Archives through the various monuments that clearly support what Christians have long believed, "that from day one in our country's history, the author of freedom was neither that state nor even the Founding Fathers."

I would strongly urge you to pick up a copy of this important book today by visiting www.newt.org and when you are finished reading, pass it along to a friend in your church family.

Why Christians Will Vote

Over the past week, I have done many interviews with secular media outlets. From print to radio and television to blogs, I have repeatedly been asked: "Jason, don't you think that with the latest Foley scandal and the David Kuo book will keep Christians at home?"

This question, each time it was asked, became more ridiculous each time. Each time, my answer was a simple response- Christians are not voting for Mark Foley- Mark Foley is gone and David Kuo's book is a non factor.

The next question that usually follows is why do I think Christians will show up and vote on November 7th. And, each time I explain that all Christians are concerned about issues and those issues will drive us to the polls on November 7th.

The key issue, regardless of where you live, are: same sex marriage, control of the Supreme Court, sanctity of life issues, the battle over religious freedom and the War on Terror and radical Islam.

Perhaps Richard Land, a frequent commentator in The Church Report and president of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission explains it best when he recently sad that Christians have a biblical responsibility to vote. He went on to say that, "God ordained the government, and in a country like ours where we have the privilege of determining that we're going to have a government of the people, by the people and for the people, it is a flat-out sin not to vote," Land said. "You need to be registered to vote. You need to be an informed voter, and when you vote, you need to vote your values.

Don't let the broadcast news or your local paper fool you. Do your homework, vote on the 7th and call 10 friends and remind them to do the same.

John Ashcroft Launches Never Again

Last week I had the opportunity to meet with former Attorney General, John Ashcroft. Having been a leader at many levels throughout his career as well as one of the strongest Christian voices in Washington for many years it was an honor to meet with him and trade questions and answers.

My conversation with Mr. Ashcroft jumped from the Patriot Act to indecency and from terrorism to family values. Now working for his own firm, Mr. Ashcroft has recently authored a book called Never Again. This first person reflection on a life lived for God and Country is an excellent read and I recommend it highly.

Now that we have eliminated some technical issues with the CR Blog, expect my daily comments on news of the day pertinent for Christians.
